These features are not considered defects but are instead natural occurrences that add to the rustic charm and aesthetic appeal of the wood. Over time, environmental factors such as changes in temperature and humidity can also cause further development of splits and cracks. Oak Sleepers may display gun-metal marks resulting from the oak’s tannic acid reacting with metal during distribution.
